Bayview Park sits on a knoll among grand live oaks that are several hundred years old in the City of Georgetown. The park was the City’s most recent revitalization project, phase one of Keep Georgetown Beautiful’s multi-phase initiative to elevate the quality of every park in the region. Executive Director Keith Wilson also says their goal also is to create cohesiveness from park to park. “We want the same caliber park in every neighborhood,” he explains.
With Bayview Park, Keep Georgetown Beautiful elicited feedback from local residents and received immediate responses, which included requests for slides for younger children, more challenging structures for older children, safer surfacing, as well as more picnic tables and benches.
Phase one included a PlaySense® playstructure from Landscape StructuresTM and bonded rubber safety surfacing.
“We’re glad to meet each need in phase one of the revitalization. Working in phases has allowed us to start something amazing and cost-effective, and to execute planned improvements in safety and quality over time,” explains Wilson.
General Recreation’s Regional Sales Consultant, Gerald Hitch, says that phased projects are often ideal for municipalities and communities that are on a set budget, yet have big ideas and expectations of where they want their parks and play areas to be in the future. “Their ability to expand and enhance later on is highly attractive to our customers,” he adds.
One special request from the City was completing the park within a tight turn-around: three weeks. “We’re fully equipped to do this,” says Hitch. “It’s something our competitors aren’t doing. That’s the beauty of our partnerships. When you say ‘go,’ we go.”
“We’ve got a great relationship with General Recreation,” says Wilson, who first worked with the company in 2005. “The information and recommendations they provide throughout the process is invaluable. They’re the best value for our dollars. We’re already looking forward to phase two.”
