A Bench For the Ages in Upper Merion Township
General Recreation is proud to have donated a memorial bench to Upper Merion Township in honor of two remarkable milestones: the 250th Anniversary of the United States and Upper Merion Township’s 50th consecutive year as a Tree City USA award recipient. These occasions speak to enduring values of stewardship, civic pride, and commitment to the natural spaces that define a community, values that we aim to reflect in our work at General Recreation.
The bench was officially dedicated on Saturday, April 18th, during Upper Merion’s Annual Earth Day Festival, a beloved community event that brought together residents to celebrate both Arbor Day and Earth Day. The setting could not have been more fitting: surrounded by the natural beauty that Upper Merion has worked for half a century to protect and nurture, the dedication was as a reminder of what park stewardship can build over generations.
Daniel Russell, Director of Parks & Recreation for Upper Merion Township, offered us warm words of appreciation, noting the long-standing relationship between the Township and General Recreation, and the many decades of service our team has provided to the Upper Merion park system and its residents. We are grateful for those words and for the trust that the Township has placed in us over the years.
For General Recreation, this donation was never simply about a bench. It was an opportunity to give something lasting back to a community we have been privileged to serve for so many years. Parks are where memories are made, where families gather, and where communities come together — and we are honored to have contributed, in a small way, to that story in Upper Merion Township.
